1. Will I really be able to earn both traffic school and
MCLE credit simultaneously?
YES. In addition to its licensure by the Department of Motor Vehicles as a
traffic violator school, the School is also a State Bar of California approved
provider of continuing legal education (MCLE Provider #8873). The School has
determined, and certifies, that the Class conforms to the standards for
approved education activities prescribed by the rules and regulations of the
State Bar of California governing mandatory continuing legal education, and
that the Class qualifies for California MCLE participatory credit in
the amount of 6.5 hours, including 1.0 hour in Prevention, Detection and
Treatment of Substance Abuse and Emotional Distress.
Accordingly, students who attend the Class receive a DMV traffic violator
school completion certificate and MCLE credit.
2. Do I have to be a lawyer to take your course?
No. Although the course is designed for lawyers, you do not have to be one to
earn a traffic school certificate. Please note, though, that this course costs
more than most other online traffic schools because the course qualifies for
6.5 hours of California MCLE credit, which does not have any value to
non-lawyers.
3. How do I know that my county or court will accept the MCLE 4 Lawyers
program?
Simply click on the “Start online traffic school” button and we will lead you
through a simple process to determine whether the court where your citation is
pending has approved our online program. Our live instruction class is approved
for Los Angeles County. If your issuing court is outside of Los Angeles County,
please call the clerk of that court to find out if they will accept a
certificate from our live instruction class.
4. I just received a citation, what should I do?
Wait to receive your paperwork from the court. Most courts will mail you a
courtesy notice about two to three weeks after you receive a citation. This
notice will inform you of the bail amount you must pay for the citation as well
as your traffic school eligibility. Most courts will charge an administrative
fee to allow you to complete traffic school in addition to the bail amount.
Make sure to pay the required fees by your issuing court’s payment due date. It
is important to take care of your court obligations before starting any of our
programs.
5. I've already paid the court money for traffic school, why do I have
to pay again?
Each court charges an administrative fee to allow you to attend a traffic
school or home study program. This is separate from any of our charges. If you
do not pay this fee to the court, then the court will not accept your
certificate of completion from us. All traffic schools, including live
instruction, home study and Internet courses, charge tuition.
6. How much is the course?
The total price for our course is only $195 including 24-hour certificate
processing, shipping and handling.
7. How long will the course take?
MCLE 4 Lawyers’ online course is self-paced. The average completion time is 6
hours 40 minutes, but actual completion time varies. No one is sitting over
your shoulder making you slow down or speed up. This means that if it takes you
a little longer to read the material and answer questions, then you can take
your time. We do recommend taking your time and absorbing all the material.
This will make the testing process much easier and smoother for you. Remember
that you will be allowed to review all course material while you are taking the
final test.
8. Do I have to complete the entire course in one sitting?
No, you may complete as many modules of the course as you desire at any one
time. The course is self-paced, which means that you can finish it during one
sitting or you can stop and start back up when you please. It's entirely up to
you.
9. How can I take the course if I don't have my own computer?
Because the course is web based, you can complete our program using any
computer with Internet access.
10. Do I need to do the entire course myself or can I get help from a
friend? What if I need help?
When registering you must accept a user agreement that states that you will
complete all the course materials on your own. You may not have any other
person answer any course questions for you.
11. What if I don't have my own e-mail address?
We use e-mail for much of our correspondence and you'll need an e-mail address
for log-in purposes. If you do not have your own e-mail address, you can obtain
free e-mail services through a number of different websites, such as
www.hotmail.com or www.mail.yahoo.com.
12. How will I receive my completion certificate?
Because of security reasons, printing your own certificate is not allowed.
If your citation was issued in any other county, you will receive a completion certificate for MCLE credits by e-mail. The majority of counties (other than Los Angeles) have implemented an electronic completion certificate process. For these counties, MCLE 4 Lawyers will submit your completion certificate directly to the court and your case will be reviewed and dismissed promptly.
Some counties such as Fresno, Mono, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Joaquin, and San Mateo require you to submit your completion certificate by mail directly to the court. For citations received in these counties, you will receive by regular mail or, if you so request and pay the applicable fees, by overnight courier, a court-approved certificate of completion for you to sign and mail to the court in the provided pre-addressed and stamped envelope.
13. Is it possible to fail the course?
Whichever course you choose, whether it is a classroom, on-line or home study
traffic school, you must take and pass a test. Although highly unlikely, there
is the possibility of failing. To pass a module test, you must earn a score of
80% or better, AND you must answer the "course validation" question correctly.
You should review all of the material in the Module before answering the
questions of the module test. All of the answers to the questions are within
the course material. We also allow you review the material while taking the
final exam. If you do not pass a test or the final exam then you may take it
again until you pass. Most students pass on the first try, so don't worry.
14. How do I get an extension of my completion deadline?
If your completion deadline falls before the date of the next class, you may
have to ask the court for an extension in order to attend. Some courts,
including Los Angeles Municipal Court, give one extension as a matter of
course. Los Angeles Municipal Court has both a telephone-based system and an
internet-based system to process the extensions. For the telephone system, call
213-742-1884 and follow the voice-mail prompts. For the internet system, point
your browser to -- http://www.lasuperiorcourt.org
-- and click on "Extensions" under "Traffic - Online Citation Services."
15. What should I do if I need a 12-hour traffic school?
If you have been "sentenced" to attend a 12-hour class, you can satisfy this
requirement by attending one of our live instruction classes for a full day and
another of our live instruction classes for an additional half day. The price
for a 12-hour class is the same as the price for the regular eight-hour class.
Please enroll in a regular eight-hour live instruction class, and we will make
arrangements with you at the class for your additional instruction. Note that
because the material is repeated, you get the same MCLE credit as for an
eight-hour class.
